As much as he's been pettily making sure the big skulls he grabbed off the remains of the Rat King bumped off Optimus on the walk back to the shuttle, Megatron doesn't truly care to needle the Prime more than necessary. He knows he's disliked. He probably doesn't care about it but Megatron has very important opinions on these matters and he feels more at ease knowing Optimus knows. How dare he not be his beautiful husband. These feelings are normal.
It's when they get back and Nickel, Tech and the weird children have gone off that Megatron and Optimus are left alone. They're adults, after all. They can sort themselves out.
Megatron immediately steps in front of Optimus, glaring at him. "I know that look. If you seek to put your axe through my shoulder again then go ahead and do it, Prime. Don't skirt around it like a coward."
Optimus was seething quietly the entire trip back to the R2. Fear and guilt at what he had almost allowed to happen (and guilt at forgetting the loss of all those he had failed, including poor Bumblebee, if only for a few hours...) and not happen, which had been topped by the ultimate in such choices...
He wasn't surprised at all to be confronted after they had arrived and been left alone, merely lifting his head. "And punishing a war crime with assault is better?" Optimus ground out, immediately stepping closer to glare up at Megatron.
"That horror had surrendered. Did you truly expect me to be thrilled about how you chose to resolve the situation? A congratulations, perhaps an energon cake made in your name. I thought you would have left such notions behind with this farce of a peace treaty."
"A war crime," He repeats very slowly, clearly incredulous to an almost enraged degree. "Do you think that was true surrender?"
He looks Optimus up and down, the same way he did when they'd first 'met', though far more scathing.
"You think after what it did to Rodimus, after it took your memories, that it was doing anything but pathetically scrabbling for survival? It would have taken more the second our backs were turned. Do you think I've never done the same?"
Well you see Optimus sir, by agreeing to not snitch you would be ensuring the peace of mind of brothers who will be none the wiser to our escapade and events there in.
So as you see there is a clear and positive benefit to your assistance
[Optimus stands in the doorway for a respectable amount of time, just staring at the shadow on his floor before he shifts his gaze to the light fixture. His finials twitch back and forth for a moment, and then he steps up to the light, unhurried and smooth and seemingly calm]
[He then smashes the light fixture into pieces, nods in satisfaction as the plastic baby joins the rain of glass and plastic shards raining down, and heads to his berth without any further delay]
[Optimus looks down at the box that has appeard outside of his habsuite. It very stubbornly refuses to disappear or turn into something else, and after a minute or so he kneels to look into the box at its contents. A pause, and sifting through them to verify that they all said the same thing, which they did]
...Right.
[He stands, bringing the box with him, and carries it off to the bar, where he leaves it on the table closest to the door with a small card that says "Please take some!" with the word please underlined several times in increasingly darker and heavier strokes]
Heya, Optimus! Are ya busy at the moment? I kinda need a hand with somethin' - just moving some equipments that're a bit too heavy for me - and I was wonderin' if you could lend a servo?
[There was only the smallest delay while Optimus touched a few spots on his datapad to minimize the firsthand accounts he had been reading of events from long before he'd arrived here, posture unconsciously straightening even though neither Ratchet or anyone else was anywhere nearby his hab suite]
Ratchet. You are not pulling me away from anything that cannot be picked up again. Where are you? I can be on the move soon.
[He didn't say that it was a pleasant surprise to hear from Ratchet, because that simply wasn't something he was accustomed to either saying or hearing about himself]
[ Recently Bass requested some important information. Who... is the strongest Cybertronian on this ship. He received a hot tip that it was 'Shockwave' but also 'not the Senator one'. There were a few thoughts that went through his processor. One... it was really dumb that there were two people here with the SAME NAME. It must get confusing! Two, while he does (surprisingly) know what a Senator is, he has no idea what a Senator looks like. Do they wear signs? Bass guesses probably not.
This leads him to one conclusion: He has to fight BOTH of them to make sure he's actually fighting the strong one.
This leads him to a second conclusion: He has no idea where Shockwave lives. He could ask for direction, ask if anyone knows... but that begs the question... If they know how strong Bass is will they even tell the truth?
There is now one solution: He has to canvas the ship himself and check every inhabited room he comes across.
So there's the backstory. And that's why Bass, armored up in his winged Treble armor (being able to fly covers ground quicker!) is pounding aggressively at your door.
Optimus... let me know when you've returned. [his tone is a little off, and definitely that recognisable some awful shit has happened, even if he's also really trying not to show it.] ...and anything you might need.
[he's apologetic in his tone. if he felt he had the choice, he would much rather leave this until optimus has had longer to recover from his mission. unfortunately, though, he doesn't, and besides isn't comfortable keeping this sort of thing from him for long.
whenever optimus gets there, primal is standing upright in his root mode, and when he sees optimus is slightly less restrained in how he immediately takes the smaller prime's hands and bumps his forehead, the way he did before they left on their mission.]
[Optimus looks sourly up at Hound. Some might have simply corrected the mech, or expressed the relief he truly does feel at someone who seemingly knew and liked one of his counterparts enough to express interest, but he is not any of those people. Instead, he gusts out an exasperated vent and lifts a hand to push at the much taller mech]
I was called here, by you. Something is broken. If you want me to explain space bridges and the different versions of people with my face to you instead, that will happen exactly never, [he huffed]. Now move. You're blocking the door.
[sometimes when people drink a lot, they have the decency to fall into recharge to sleep it off. optimus is not one of these people.]
Helloooo! I saw you almost come into the bar earlier! [like five hours ago at this point. he sounds, uh. jolly, to put it politely.] I think we would've made a really great team, it was a fun game! Was it because of that Megatron, though? I get it, he's so annoying and I'm not even allowed to put him on a shelf or something because that would probably start a fight...
You should definitely come if we play again, though, I think it's... uh... team work. Good to practice. Or some other equally Prime-y thing I'm supposed to say.
[Optimus hadn't actually fallen into recharge yet, but it was a near thing. He gave a shake to rouse himself before making a short rasp of a laugh]
Hello, Optimus. Still having fun, are you?
[He decides to sidestep most of what was said, although he feels unexpectedly touched at the declarations]
Are you still there? I can make my way there to accompany you, if the others have left.
[Meaning Megatron. If Megatron had left. He gets a repeat of the sour twist of irritation that had made him leave in the first place, but it can be ignored for now.]
I thought... think... ugh, thought Primes are 'posed to be good at stuff! Twice! Twice you end up face down! On something that could practically be diet energon!
[how convenient optimus wasn't present the one time megatron bottomed out... he says all this with the confidence of someone who hasn't spent the last few hours purging his tanks. he also thinks he is standing while he says all this. he is not.]
Utter nonsense. Primus, you're annoying. I will throw you out the airlock one day. You can tell Magnus, I don't care.
[Optimus groans loudly into the comm. Why couldn't he be irritating quietly?]
Why would I bother telling him anything? That... ugh... That would only be a threat if it came from someone who wasn't face down unconscious through our one battle together. What will you do, fall on me?
[To demonstrate, Optimus attempted to leverage himself upright off of his berth, which he didn't remember dragging himself to, and immediately gave up. He landed back on pillows he also didn't remember having put back on his berth with a heavy grunt]
If you were half as deadly as you are loud, I would consider being worried.
[ Sat on Optimus's bed is a large seemingly normal rubber duck. However this duck carries a terrifying secret. Optimus... has anger issues. Anger issues he might eventually think to temper by using a poor innocent rubber duck to squeeze like a stress ball.
However should he attempt it... it will let out the most TERRIBLE scream. ]
Just because Optimus and Primal are from the same reality (possibly) and forged a bond in battle, does not mean they are always in each other's company. Both of them have separate things to attend to, be it legitimate concerns or busy work they've given themselves. The type of mechs they are, they don't like to be idle. No matter what.
It's been a few weeks since Primal has been about, as especially after the Hunt, he's had a lot of both legitimate concerns and busy work. He's only been checking in every now and then, as he knows Optimus worries for any of his compatriots if it's been a while since their comm was active. Rightly so; he understands and buries the same feelings.
Now, though, he's in one of the rooms they usually go to when they meet up, for whatever reason. He mentally calls it their space, and has come here for comfort. ...To no success. It has not eased the issues in his mind or the ache in his chest both from the Matrix and from wanting Airazor around to seek comfort and advice from.
He's sitting on one of the tables, as he was finding the chairs too uncomfortable, idly flicking through a datapad. He can't concentrate on anything on it, or anything off it, and he's starting to get a little agitated about how he can't do the work he's trying to do because he keeps rereading the same sentences over and over and over and over again.
